We will be continually streaming live through shoutcast, so the server has to be able to have the ram to always let users on to listen to the radio station. anyone have a good link to a cool and big (memory wise) server for kinda cheep…the less money the better, but the better the quality is more important. First. I wouldn’t buy a server. With bandwidth and network up-time so good and inexpensive, why have the headache. You’re offering a service that’s valuable, the moment it fails, for whatever reason – then what?

I would check out Amazon Web Services. (aws.amazon.com) I would do this for two reasons…

    1. You only pay for what you use.

    2. Their network is bullet proof, inexpensive, globally redundant and time tested.

If you’re sticking your nose into this for the first time, just reading how their systems work will give you a great crash education that you should have anyway to make good business decisions.

There are also hundreds of other inexpensive solutions too.

Get some more info and understanding of what’s available – it will be worth it.
