What is the best platform for designing and a hosting a user-created content website?

My friend and I have an idea for a website along the design lines of textsfromlastnight.com and fmylife.com – I grew up with computers and have designed and hosted basic websites before but it’s been 6+ years since then and a lot has changed; I’m suddenly feeling very lost.
Right now our plan is to host a WordPress website on GoDaddy – is this the best option? If not, what is?

go daddy is decent, but not the best. their biggest downfalls are customer service, which sucks and more importantly some scripts don’t work on godaddy servers and the biggest problem ….
godaddy doesn’t offer dedicated servers! suppose you guys do a bang up job and manage to get millions of visitors like one of the larger networking sites. you won’t be able to survive on a shared server. you will need to be moved to a dedicated server.
so if you go with godaddy your site have to be moved to an new web host and that can be a pain!
so start off with a company that will allow you to grow when the time is right. my suggestion is hostgator.
