wordpress would probably be your best option, its not complicated at all, you must not have read about how to use it. I myself use wordpress and i love it, its very user friendly
I know you said no WordPress, but have you tried their hosting service?
As in they will host your blog, I also think you can use a .co.cc domain (http://co.cc/ for 2 free domains) with it
Also try 000webhost.com, they can offer you fairly good webhosting for free with autoinstallers for some blog scripts.
If you’re looking for anything free you’ll have to accept you will either have to compromise or do without a few features and also, you will have to learn a bit about how it works – ie. how to set up a blog manually, etc otherwise you will end up with an unsuccessful site
