Is it possible to have 2 separate (differently designed) websites hosted under the same hosting account?

A business hosting question:

I have hosting for one website but have just bought another domain for a separate business. I am wondering if I can simply host this new domain under my existing hosting plan? Or will I have to pay for separate hosting for this new domain?

    You have two options.

If you have two 2nd level domains (for example web1.example.com and web2.example.com), then you can set it up under one hosting plan. It gets set up in your .htaccess file.

If you have two 1st level domains (for example www.example.com and http://www.Maxi-Pedia.com), then yes, you need two hosting plans. However, if you can fit both your websites into the space that you have allocated for your first website, you can usually make a deal with hosting provider in a sense that the price for your two domains is less than price for two hosting accounts. In this case, they just create another folder in your existing account and make some changes in their config files.

If your web hosting supports multiple domains, yes you can. If not, you must upgrade your web hosting plan (if it’s possible) or change your web hosting plan. Take a look at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. Their service is really great and easy to use.

Your answer is that is depends on the type of Hosting plan that you have with your provider. If you are paying say $4.95 per month then you may not be able add another domain onto the account.

One option may be to use a sub domain the url would look something like this. httpwww.newweb.oldweb.com

If you can get along with that type of URL structure then that is fine.

The other option is to upgrade your hosting plan as most web hosting providers will be happy for you. Increase in monthly cost about $3.00

Sure, but it depends on the hosting plan (If they allow enough space/domains).

Go to http://www.rmbdomains.com/affiliates for a list of my favorite hosts. Personally though, I use GoDaddy’s premium hosting plan to host all of my websites (about 10 small sites).
