But, here is the approach you should take.
You have to explain the benefits to the businesses in clear simple terms. The benefit would be exposing their products to your guests (their potential customers). Describe the event and the typical attendees (education, income status, buying habits, etc.) so the businesses will know what their "donation" is potentially getting them.
